What is Hormonal Imbalance ?

Hormonal imbalance is the increase or decrease of hormones (oestrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and pregnenolone) in our body. The tiny change in their levels can lead to major or multiple symptoms.

Out of the major 4 hormones, oestrogen plays a significant role in causing hormonal imbalance. Increase of oestrogen hormone in our body leads to a major hormonal condition called Oestrogen dominance, leading to diseases like endometriosis, PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), PCOD, Infertility, fibroids, breast and uterine cancers.

What Causes Hormonal Imbalance?

1) Exposure to Oestrogen Hormone in Mother's Womb: If the pregnant mother is having oestrogen dominance or, she is exposed to or in direct contact with high oestrogen products, then it is going to affect her foetus.

2) Consumption of Birth Control Pills: Birth control pills are the simplest way for the women to opt after unsafe sex, leading to increase in progesterone hormone in their body. Knowingly or unknowingly, disturbing their hormones and inviting hormonal imbalance.

3) Exposure to Chemicals Such as Makeup and Deodorants: The makeup and deodorant that we use to increase our beauty temporarily has nothing, but endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) which targets your oestrogen receptors in the body that makes females prone to have oestrogen dominance diseases or symptoms. Fortunately, I have a solution to this. Keep reading to know the DIY makeup or deodorant recipe.

4) Consumption of Tap Water: The Environmental Working Group (EWG) states that our tap water contains 45 hormone disrupting chemicals which have a direct effect in disturbing our hormone levels.

5) Slow or Weak Digestion: How many times do you poop? Majority of the people believe that one should only go once in the morning. But according to me, one should go 2-3 times a day to excrete its toxins and especially the bad oestrogen from the body. Low poop cycle can be due to less fibre and decrease of good bacterias in our body.

6) Toxic Liver or Reduction in Liver functioning: Liver being the largest gland in our body, has a lot of functions to perform. It is responsible to metabolise our oestrogen hormone, therefore its toxicity can lead to the accumulation of bad oestrogen in the body. Hence, detoxification of the liver is the first step in reversing our oestrogen dominance. The two major ingredients to get us the desired results are Milk Thistle and N- acetylcysteine amino acid. Taking it daily will help in reversing the hormonal imbalance conditions.

5 Ways on How to Control Hormonal Imbalance

1) Maintaining the Protein Intake

Western diets are often packed with excessive protein, which can take a toll on kidney health. On the flip side, we Indians tend to rely heavily on high-carb, low-protein meals, making us a global hotspot for diabetes and hormonal imbalances—especially for vegetarians. This imbalance in nutrition highlights why incorporating a high-quality protein shake into your routine isn't just a choice; it's a step toward a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

2) Adding Herbs and Spices

Herbs and spices are nature's way of supporting hormonal balance. Adaptogens like ashwagandha and tulsi help manage stress by regulating cortisol levels, while spices like turmeric and cinnamon reduce inflammation, a major disruptor of hormones.

Rich in essential nutrients like magnesium and zinc, they support hormone production and aid detoxification by boosting liver function. Spices like cinnamon also stabilize blood sugar, crucial for managing insulin and conditions like PCOS. Adding these natural wonders to your diet helps restore harmony to your endocrine system while enhancing overall wellness.

3) Replacing Carbs with Healthy Fats

In women, steroid hormones are secreted by fats, making it essential to include healthy fats in the diet. Coconut oil and MCT oil are excellent choices, with MCT oil standing out for its ability to curb cravings and support hormonal balance.

However, finding pure MCT oil in India can be a challenge, as caprylic acid (C8)—the most effective component—is quite costly. Thankfully, there's COCO D3, a unique blend of MCT oil and Vitamin D, offering both quality and affordability to keep your hormones and overall health in check.

4) Vitamins and Minerals

If you're dealing with hormonal imbalance, your body needs the nutrients from around 9–10 bowls of vegetables daily to meet its requirements. But let's be real—busy schedules and the quality of today's produce make this nearly impossible.

That's why opting for a high-quality multivitamin supplement is a smart choice. Look for one enriched with antioxidants and omega-3, to help bridge the nutritional gap and support your hormonal health effortlessly.

5) Adding DIM

For women dealing with hormonal imbalance, the body requires about 100 mg of diindolylmethane (DIM) per day, a powerful compound created when you digest cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower.

To meet this requirement naturally, you would need to consume an unrealistic 1 kg of broccoli or cabbage daily! Not only is this impractical, but it could also disrupt your thyroid and overall hormonal balance. That's why DIM Supplement is a smarter solution—providing the right dose without overloading your system.
